Chapter Member Advisor, PMI (Global)
President, National Speakers Association Georgia
Past President, PMI Atlanta
Laura Davidson is fiercely independent; a little shy; and, pretty quiet until you give her a microphone or a team to lead. She has always been a “people person” and worked for years to suppress her soft skills by emulating the more dominate task, fact, and executable delivery mind-set. Laura’s real success (and, joy) came when she made the shift to cultivate her communication skills and nurture talents and goals of those she led. She is an experienced project manager; professional speaker; and, a self-proclaimed ‘serial volunteer’ serving locally and globally for 25+ years. Having led over 500 walking tours in Atlanta (including historic neighborhoods; a movie palace theatre; and, a cemetery); she is a Past President of PMI Atlanta (Project Management Institute); she currently serves 300+ chapters worldwide as a Senior Global Volunteer to the Project Management Institute; she is also currently serving as the President of the National Speakers Association of Georgia; and, as a Guest Ambassador for the Georgia Aquarium. Laura is honored to be a graduate of the elite global executive leadership program offered by the Project Management Institute, known as the Leadership Institute Masters Class. She finds cooking creative and therapeutic; loves history and art and spent 9 years as a museum docent combining the two. Laura loves to travel and view history at its’ source while experiencing an area with locals – she makes friends easily and never meets a stranger even when languages are not the same! Laura is a story teller and loves to teach through stories (even better when the stories happen to make her audiences laugh while they learn!) She has worked in global teams for multiple industries for 20+ years and is a champion for raising the quality of the end product through effective communication and consensus building. Due to terrific relationship building skills and a commitment to share effort as well as success, Laura loves to learn has developed a unique knack for gaining industry exposure and getting to work in areas where she has no previous experience … having done so previously in Release Management and Enterprise Architecture; Laura is currently working as a Sr. Project Manager and developing a better appreciation; understanding; and, giving back through her own skills to the IT Systems and Applications Security area for IHG in Atlanta, Georgia. Laura lives with the lights of her life; her husband, Alexander, and their two furry friends, Holly and Geronimo. Alexander is also a passionate volunteer leader and Laura’s biggest fan and supporter.
